VDA 400

The TEREX Roadbuilding 400 Series Pavers - VDA 400 Crawlers and VDA 421 Tires were completely redesigned and modernized and bring an excellent set of innovations. Because they are compact, they are excellent tools for an urban application, but may also be perfectly adapted for using with highway construction projects since the current demands are quality and flexibility.

The new 400 Series was designed using modern engineering and computer resources that made it possible even to develop a crawler/tire reversibility concept. This is the exclusive DUAL CONCEPT system. The basic machine comes equipped with the 4050 screed, has a design that has been widely tested and approved by the market, and its main feature is its small transportation width. With the screed closed, the equipment is 2.5 meters wide, which makes it possible for it to be transported by standard trucks more easily and at a lower cost. Furthermore, it incorporates items that differentiate the Terex pavers from the others such as floatation and adjustment of the inclination of the extensions.

  • Hydrostatic Transmission

    • Hydrostatic transmission - made with a Sauer Danfoss axial piston pump, planetary gear box, safety brakes, parking brakes, and final drive by chains.

  • Drive

    • VDA 421
    • Load distribution on three axless - ensures good stability for the equipment and a better load distribution.
    • 1100 x 22 tires - ensure a larger contact area with greater traction strength. Low replacement cost and high availability in the market.
    • Equalizer-type front wheels - 500-mm (20”) diameter double wheels and a 230-mm (9”) tire width with 85 Shore A hardness. Hydraulic cylinders controlled by the operator's steering wheel do the directional steering.
    • • Wheels are equipped with a cleaning system.
    • Extremely short turning radius due to the adjustment of the differential turn between the wheels.
    • VDA 400
    • Truck with D4 traction system - proven durability in heavy-duty services, it provides superb performance in traction and transiting. As an option, the truck can be equipped with polyurethane shoes.
  • Asphalt Conveyors

    • Two independent conveyors, 350-mm (13.3/4”) wide.
    • Independent floodgates with flow regulators.
    • Electro-mechanical sensors for controlling the volume of asphalt mix on the compacting screed.
    • • Both automatic and manual operational mode.
    • • Proportional control.
    • • Brace rollers with reinforced rotary joints, equipped with an exclusive cleaning system.
    • Unloading zone with inclination - keeps material from accumulating.
    • Easy access for maintenance of the front conveyor.
    • • The screw conveyors, 320 mm (12.5/8”) in diameter, are made of highly resistant, cast material with a minimum hardness of 500 HB.

  • Steering Control

    • VDA 421
    • Excellent driveability and operational comfort - hydraulic steering with oil flow adjustment to the equalizing cylinders.
    • • Controlled by operator's steering wheel.
    • • Speed adjustment by forward mechanical joystick.
    • VDA 400
    • • Steering unit by means of a hydraulic joystick with control valves that actuate directly on the hydraulic motors by varying the oil flow.
    • • Operator uses the joystick for steering the equipment.
  • Control Station

    • • Control station, seat, and canopy can all be slided sideways on tracks. The dislocation is very smooth and gives options for various positions for working.
    • • The control station has a side dislocation of 30 cm (12”) out from the machine that gives the operator a better vision of the work.
    • Great vision of the area, completely free of obstacles.
    • • Individual canopy with height adjustment.
    • Rotating beacon light as required by traffic norms.
    • • Access stairs and guardrails at the control station ensure the operator's safety.
    • Extendable illumination system - offers perfect visibility of the road and alignment. Covers the front and rear part of the equipment at the same time.
    • The back of the operator's seat can be adjusted - offering greater comfort and a better ergonomic performance.
  • Control Panel

    • • Complete panel with all of the controls and instruments required for the equipment's operation, such as:
    • - Pressure Gauge: indicates the pressure of the hydrostatic system, also serving as an indicator of the correct operation of the truck/paver set.
    • - Function Indicator: shuts down due to low oil pressure, battery failure, high water temperature, and return filter blockage.
    • - Tachometer, hour meter, fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure of the diesel engine.
    • Functions: starter, stop button, indicator light of the neutral for the hydrostatic system, screw conveyor switch, flotation switch, up and down of the screed, opening and closing of the screed, work lights and warning lights, opening and closing of the mix hopper, control of the vibrators, pavement thickness control, speed control (high/low), horn, diesel motor accelerator, and forward and reverse transiting.

  • Hydraulic System

    • • Two gear pumps for driving the motors of the mix conveyors independently.

    • • Double filtering system of the suction and return flow, with absolute filtering of 10 mm.

  • Flotation System

    This system releases the weight of the screed so that it “floats” over the asphalt concrete with the lowest angle of attack as possible, favoring theperfect paved surface finish as well as improving the traction and the response time to changing the thickness applied. With the floating system, the paving thickness is adjusted by the inclination of the screed in relation to the ground (angle of attack), increasing or reducing the layer of pavement.

    • • Makes it possible to work with all paving thicknesses, from 15 mm (19/32") up to 300 mm (11.13/16").

  • Dual Concept System

    • • Exclusive system that allows the change of the system of traction, from tires to treadmills, or vice versa, in just two days;
    • •The chassis of equipment is unique and adaptable, and can receive both the system of traction on treadmills as the traction for tires;
    • •The hydraulic system is unique, requiring only the replacement of positive traction, tires installed on the machines, for a differential flow valve, installed in poor ; corners of mats;
    • • The system requires the replacement of the steering wheel, installed on the machines, tires, the hydraulic joystick, installed in poor corners of mats;
    • • The system of traction for tires, composed of tires and rear wheels front is replaced by trucks or vice versa.
  • Automatic Systems of Operation

    • • All of the machines operate with a floatation system for the screeds and because of this the screw conveyor system does not work if the floatation button is turned off.
    • • When working with the electronic devices and the machine stops, the operational mode defaults to neutral. The signals sent by the electronic sensors to the valves and screed are automatically blocked and remain on standby waiting for the work to resume, without losing their settings.
    • •Whenever the machine is in operation and is placed in neutral, the braking system will automatically be actuated in order to keep the equipment parked and in place.
    • • Diesel engine protection devices turn off the equipment under two conditions: high water temperature and low oil pressure.
